In Castelpoto, in the heart of the old village, “dS > 0″ was born: a sound bench created during the S(t)uoni Art Residency.

The starting point for the work is “tiembo”, a word from the local dialect that suggests a perception of time different from the linear, measurable one. A time that does not simply pass, but remains embedded in places, stones, architecture, sacred spaces and ruins. A time that, in some way, continues to resonate.

This was where my work in Castelpoto began: by listening to the village and to its presences, but also to its absences. I collected environmental sounds, resonances, vibrations and subtle traces of the soundscape, trying to approach what normally remains in the background. The wind moving through the stones, the resonances of empty spaces, sounds that emerge and disappear all became compositional material.

“dS > 0″ therefore takes the form of a very simple device: a bench on which to sit and from which to listen. Made of Cautano stone and corten steel, it establishes a physical relationship with the place, while a QR code provides access to the sound composition. The sound composition can also be listened to online here.

“dS > 0″ is an invitation to sit down, slow down and listen to what remains. And perhaps also to what, as we listen, is already disappearing.
